HISTORIC ATTRACTIONS

  • Fort Reno Park --two blocks east of Wisconsin Avenue at Chesapeake Street . Site of a Civil War fort. Highest spot in Washington , with great views into Virginia . Tennis courts, soccer field, summer concerts.
  • The Rest, 39th and Windom Streets--built in 1801; the oldest house in Tenleytown.
  • Eldbrooke cemetery--adjacent to Eldbrooke Methodist Church, River Road and Wisconsin Avenue--where the original bodies are buried, a lovely and serene space.
  • Grant Road Historic District, 4400 and 4500 blocks of Grant Road , a site for tours by the Smithsonian.
  • Bon Secours Convent, Yuma Street --former home of sisters who nursed residents in the nineteenth century.

Tenleytown has excellent restaurants along Wisconsin Avenue , including those serving Thai, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Mexican, French, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Continental, Portugese, and Jewish deli cuisine. Several restaurants have sidewalk cafes. Don't go to Baltimore ; we also have crabs.
