What’s on Tap in Tenleytown (9/2-9/8)

Happy Labor Day!  Here’s a quick run down of a few events taking place in the neighborhood this week.

Tenleytown T’ai Chi will be offering free one-hour classes on Tuesday, September 3 at 12:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. at their studio located at 4321 Wisconsin Avenue, NW (entrance is on Windom Place).  For more information, including what to wear, visit their website at tenleytowntaichi.com.

As part of the GreenLiving Expo DC on September 7, Wholeness for Humanity will host a free GreenHomes Bike EcoTour.  The two-hour tour will kick off from the University of the District of Columbia at 2 p.m.; registration begins at 1:30 p.m.  The EcoTour will feature a 30-minute Green Walking Tour of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, which neighbors can join at 3 p.m. in the church lobby.  The tour will explore green improvements implemented at St. Columba’s that have brought the physical plant closer to satisfying LEED certification, including:  a new, high efficiency HVAC system; programmable thermostats; use of Light Emitting Diode (LED) signs and compact fluorescent lamps; occupancy sensor light switches in bathrooms and other eligible areas; new, low flow toilets; a switch to 100% renewable power (wind) through independent power providers; rain barrels around the perimeter of the church; additional trees throughout the Nursery School grounds; addition of a bike stand outside the Albemarle Street entrance; and single stream recycling.  Register for either the GreenHomes EcoTour or the Green Walking Tour online here.
