Volunteer to Spruce Up Local Schools
Help D.C. public schools get ready for the new school year. Join the thousands of volunteers who will lend a hand to clean and freshen more than 100 schools as part of the 2014 DC Public Schools Beautification Day.
Since 2005, the annual Beautification Day has brought together District residents to improve schools through landscaping, painting, classroom organization, and trash removal projects across the city.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, August 23 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Registering to participate is easy. Just visit the DCPS website and sign up online. Individual and group registrations are welcomed. Tasks are available for all levels of physical ability and ages; children under the age of 18 will need a parent to sign a release form.
In Tenleytown, volunteers are needed at Janney Elementary School, Alice Deal Middle School, and Woodrow Wilson High School. Or consider registering as a flexible volunteer, and DCPS will assign you to a District school that needs additional volunteers; you can specify that your assigned school be Metro accessible if necessary.
Volunteer slots for specific schools fill up quickly, so register early. DCPS asks that you register by August 15 so organizers can ensure that all schools have sufficient volunteers.
