Tenley View, Dancing Crab on Tonight’s ANC Agenda

Back after a brief summer hiatus, Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 3E will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson High School.

The agenda includes an update on the Tenley View project at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Brandywine Street. Recently a massive crane was erected at the site, signalling that the current phase of construction, which began in early August, is moving right along. Developers have also installed a protective sidewalk canopy for pedestrians.

The Dancing Crab, Tenley View’s neighbor across Wisconsin Avenue, also appears on the agenda. The restaurant is seeking an expansion of its liquor license to reflect an increase in seating capacity resulting from its ongoing renovation.

According to a notice posted on the building exterior, The Dancing Crab is requesting a substantial change to its operations: “The change is for an expansion of seating to the 3rd floor. The addition of summer gardens on the second floor and on the rooftop of the 3rd floor seating of 42. The addition of an enclosed Sidewalk Cafe, 20 seats. The seating capacity is 165 of which 42 are Summer Garden/rooftop and the total capacity is 218.” The restaurant is also planning to cut back the hours it sells alcoholic beverages in the new space, ending sales at 11:00 p.m. rather than 2:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday; Friday and Saturday the Dancing Crab would remain open until 2:00 a.m.

Rounding out the agenda are consideration of grant requests from the Lisner Home and the Children’s Art Studio.

The meeting will take place in the Black Box Theater at Wilson High School, 3950 Chesapeake Street, NW. Attendees are advised to enter the building from Chesapeake Street, take the stairs on the right after entering the building, and proceed through the double doors. The Black Box Theater is the first room on the right.
