children playingLooking for fun activities for the kids when local schools are closed in February? Here are three nearby, full-day options:

The D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a “Fun Day” on February 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at select locations in each of the District’s wards. Available for children ages 6 to 12 years, the Fun Day offers athletics and arts and crafts to provide kids with engaging activities throughout the day. In Ward 3, DPR will operate at Chevy Chase Community Center, 5601 Connecticut Avenue, and Stoddert Recreation Center, 4001 Calvert Street. More information is available on the DPR website, including how to register. Registration is free, but space is limited.

The Children’s Art Studio will hold art workshops for children ages 5 years and older on February 13, 16, and 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Activities include art exploration, two- and three-dimensional art-making, and outdoor play. Formerly located in Tenleytown, the studio is taking up residence at the Friends Meeting House in Dupont Circle, 2111 Florida Avenue, for these sessions. Registration is $95 for each workshop and can be made by emailing with your child’s name, age, and the date of the workshop. More details are available on The Children’s Art Studio website.

HoopEd has two options in the area. A one-day basketball camp will be offered at Stoddert Elementary in Glover Park on February 13, 16, and 23, and at Blessed Sacrament in Chevy Chase on February 16. They also offer an All Sports and Game camp, which gives kids the opportunity to take part in a variety of playground games, at Lafayette Elementary in Chevy Chase on February 13, 16, and 23. All camps run from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and are geared toward children ages 5 to 13 years. Registration is $60 for each camp, with an option to add aftercare for an additional $15. More information can be found at the HoopEd website under “February Student Holiday One Day Camps.”
