CityDance, the award-winning dance program that has called Strathmore home for a decade, recently opened a new studio in Tenleytown. CityDance at Tenley will offer master classes and rehearsal space for area dancers, as well as programs to develop local choreographers.

Current available classes include contemporary African dance and hip hop. This fall the studio will launch a new program for children under the age of 10 to introduce kids to dance and foster young artists.

City Dance at Tenley is located at 4435 Wisconsin Avenue, between Mattress Discounters and Sahara Dance.

Tenleytown Safeway

Safeway is sticking around – at least for another two years. Georgetown Day School announced in its March GDS Connection newsletter that the school had reached an agreement with Safeway to extend the grocer’s lease into 2017.

GDS purchased the Safeway property last year as part of the private school’s plan to expand its Tenleytown campus and unite its upper and lower schools. Under the terms of the purchase agreement, GDS is prohibited from developing a grocery store at the current Safeway location, but can include a store of up to 18,000 square feet at the Euro Motorcars site it also purchased. GDS is currently exploring options for a grocer on that property.

One caveat to the good news – the lease agreement can be terminated with 60-days notice from either GDS or Safeway. According to GDS, Safeway requested this stipulation be added to the contract.

GDS will provide an update on its campus project at the April 8th Tenleytown Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting. For additional information, read past posts about development of the Safeway and Euro Motorcars properties on the Tenleytown, D.C. website.
