Semi-Annual Community Blood Drive at Janney
On Thursday, October 8, Janney Elementary School is sponsoring a Community Blood Drive from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Stop by to give blood and help save a life.
Participants in the drive can donate blood or double red cells. For blood donations all blood types are needed. For double red cell donations, which collect red cells but return most of the plasma and platelets to the donor, only donors with blood types A negative, B negative, or O are eligible, and may have to meet additional requirements. For questions about donor eligibility, call the American Red Cross Eligibility Hotline at 1-866-236-3276.
Appointments can be scheduled in advance by visiting www.redcrossblood.org and searching by zip code 20016, or calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Advance scheduling can minimize wait times the day of the drive; allow approximately an hour to donate blood and 90 minutes for double red cell donations. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Donors are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat a healthy meal before giving blood. And don’t forget to bring two forms of identification.
