Wagshal’s Opens Family Restaurant

Wagshals restaurant interiorAfter much anticipation, Wagshal’s new sit-down family restaurant is officially open, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week.

The full-service restaurant is an extension of the recently expanded Wagshal’s deli in the Spring Valley shopping center. Facing Yuma Street at the rear of the shopping center, the new glass enclosed dining patio has a warm, rustic atmosphere with dark, wide wood plank floors and thick wood table tops. In the colder months, the glass panels keep the space bright and warm, while we’re told that in the warmer seasons the panels can fold back offering a full outdoor dining experience.

While we haven’t had a chance to sample the restaurant’s fare, the menu is promising. Breakfast includes all the classics one would expect, including Belgian waffles, omelettes, eggs Benedict, and even oatmeal, as well as selections in keeping with its namesake deli, such as corned beef hash and a smoked fish plate. Lunch also draws upon Wagshal’s strengths, featuring a selection of over stuffed sandwiches, hearty sides and salads, and fresh baked pizza.

The dinner menu leans toward comfort food and family classics made with top quality ingredients from Wagshal’s nearby market. Roast chicken, eggplant Parmesan, Delmonico steak, and crab cakes are some of the main courses featured on the menu, along with salads, sandwiches, and pizza. Daily specials include chicken Parmesan, meat loaf, ribs, turkey and stuffing, and their famous brisket.

Wagshal’s family restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., and Sunday 9:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Diners can enter through the deli, with parking in the Spring Valley shopping center at 4857 Massachusetts Avenue, or on Yuma Street.
