Neighborhood in the News
In case you missed them, here are a few stories we came across this week that we thought were worth a second look:
- In a scene straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon, a lone squirrel caused a power outage at Wilson High School and neighboring Wilson Aquatic Center on Monday. It seems his fall foraging brought him a little too close to some Pepco equipment. Sadly, though, unlike his animated counterparts he “did not survive the encounter.” ~ Squirrel Causes Power Problem in American University-Tenleytown Area of NW D.C.
- A couple weeks ago we featured some musical odes to our fair neighborhood. Well this week, we came across a piece by an American University student who took a deeper look into “Tenley Town” by The Walkmen. The whole piece is a fun, quick read, but our favorite tidbit is a quote from band member Hamilton Leithauser: “We called it ‘Tenley Town’ because we’re not as tough as Bad Brains. Tenleytown is not as tough as, you know, 14th Street.” ~ Out of Step: “Tenley Town” and The Walkmen’s Take on DC Hardcore
