Le Chat Noir Named Top D.C. Wine Bar
Local French bistro Le Chat Noir was recently named one of D.C.’s top ten wine bars by USA Today’s aptly named travel site 10BEST. The Tenleytown restaurant’s authentic French atmosphere combined with a carefully curated wine selection helped land it on the list.
In making the case for Le Chat Noir, 10BEST‘s Washington Expert wrote:
This D.C. destination takes its name from one of the first avant-garde cabarets to open in Paris in the 1880s. With a casual atmosphere, guests may head to the upstairs wine lounge, Le Chat Perche, to sample some vino and watch silent images of film stars Greta Garbo and Gloria Swanson. Choosing wines from various regions and from small producers, guests are sure to savor every sip. Food menus are seasonal in order to bring guests the freshest dishes. Do not leave without sampling some of their sweet crepes. Your personal trainer may not like it but your stomach will!
What she failed to mention is that Le Chat Noir offers a free wine tasting on the first Thursday of every month. Patrons in the upstairs lounge can sample six different wines – three reds and three whites – while enjoying classic French music. The next tasting is just a week away, on March 3, so if you haven’t been to Le Chat Noir or haven’t been in a while, consider making plans for next Thursday.
Le Chat Noir is located at 4907 Wisconsin Avenue, NW. The restaurant is open Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Le Chat Perche is open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday starting at 5:00 p.m.
